Reading Elder Futhark Runes - The 24 Runes

Understanding the Dual Nature of Rune Energy
A useful way to work with the runes is to understand them through both their energy and their shadow.
The energy of a rune is its core force — how it naturally wants to express itself when it is balanced and flowing. It describes the rune’s essential vibration, what it activates, strengthens or brings into being and how it feels when aligned (for example, expansive, grounding, protective, catalytic etc). Think of energy as the rune’s true nature or upright expression.
The shadow of a rune describes how its energy expresses itself when it is blocked, distorted, overused, resisted or unconscious. It reveals imbalance, fear or avoidance, the misuse of the rune’s power and the lessons that are asking to be integrated. Remember, the shadow isn’t ‘bad’ — it simply shows where growth is needed for transformation.
